In your quest to keep food edible for as long as it possibly can, you may have tried so many methods. There’s the common way of placing leftovers in a baggie or just putting cling wrap over the food. However, they’re often tough to stack together and if you do succeed, they’re even tougher to remove from the freezer without the plastic ripping apart and ruining the food. You may also have been lured by home shopping TV to buy and use vacuum packers that keep food sealed in airtight packages.

There are two disadvantages to this though. You might find it difficult to use the machine and it will take your time. Once you’ve mastered the method, there’s the difficulty of finding replacement bags because they are not standardized so you have to find the same brand. As you can see, I’ve tried these methods as well, but the best solution that my friends and I use is the Pyrex glass food storage containers.

Glass storage containers like the Kinetic range, are also airtight and dishwasher safe, like plastic containers. Both can be transparent so you can see the contents inside immediately. More than that, glass does not discolor when spicy food is placed in it, nor does the odor of strong-smelling food stick to it. Those are difficult, if not impossible, to wash out of the plastic container.

The stain and the odor in plastic containers may be harmless, but what’s dangerous is melting and that plastic chemicals leech into your food when plastic is subjected to very high or very low temperatures. Yet another risk with using plastic is that it can warp with repeated use and when placed inside a microwave to heat food. Even if the lid can still fit, a warped container is not likely to be airtight, not like glass food storage containers

The lids seal very tightly; you can store the container upside down and they will not spill. They are available in different sizes so you can maximize your refrigerator space. You can wash both the glass bottom and lid in the dishwasher and use the top rack for the lid. Pyrex containers are also microwaveable, so you can grab leftovers from the freezer and heat them immediately without the hassle of scraping frozen food to transfer to a microwavable container. The glass is very durable and can withstand the extreme temperatures of the freezer and the microwave. Because of this, Pyrex glass is tough to break, not fragile. Despite repeated and constant use, these glass food storage containers will last for a lifetime.

One of my friends use Snapware glasslock containers which look very nice. They ar all-natural glass vessels with airtight lids, ideal for serving and storing and is also safe for microwave cooking. They are secure with easy open and close latches.
